Los Angeles: Ask your City Councilmember to support a citywide rodeo ban
This action is for Los Angeles residents only.
At rodeos, animal cruelty is in full public view — where docile animals are chased, wrangled, roped, and tormented for spectacle and so-called entertainment. The horses, bulls, steer, and calves can suffer from painful injuries, including broken ribs, backs, and legs, torn tails, punctured lungs, internal organ damage, ripped tendons, torn ligaments, snapped necks, and agonizing deaths.
Councilmember Bob Blumenfield has introduced an ordinance to protect animals from rodeo abuse in the City of Los Angeles. Now, we need your help to pass this ordinance!
Take action
Please take a few minutes to contact your City Councilmember and urge them to support Councilmember Blumenfield’s rodeo ordinance. A short email followed by a quick call can make all the difference!
Here are some talking points, but personalized messages may have a greater impact:
Dear Councilmember,
I am a constituent living in [NEIGHBORHOOD] in your district and I urge you to support Councilmember Blumenfield’s rodeo ordinance. Rodeos use cruel practices that hurt animals. Electric prods, bucking straps, and spurs are used to make bulls and horses buck more wildly, causing them injuries including broken legs and backs. Calves are violently roped around the neck at full speed, slammed down, and suffer serious internal injuries and agonizing deaths. Injuries are chronically underreported — including a recent incident where a bucking bull suffered a fatal injury at the OC Fair rodeo and it was not reported to the Veterinary Medical Board as required by state law. Angelenos love animals and they deserve legal protection from this cruelty. Please vote yes when the rodeo ordinance comes before the Council.
Sincerely,
[YOUR NAME]
