Massachusetts: Take Action for Companion Animals in Pet Custody Cases Today!
This action is for Massachusetts residents only.
A new Pet Custody Bill (S.1206/H.1817) would provide guidance to judges involved in divorce or separation proceedings to help determine the best interests of a companion animal when assigning their care and custody.
Pet custody laws help protect the best interest of the family companion animal, protect survivors of domestic violence (many of whom refuse to leave an abuser out of fear for a beloved companion animal), and protect the emotional attachment between the animal and their human family members, including any children in the family. This legislation requires that judges take into consideration certain specific factors related to the companion animal’s best interests, including whether any household member has a history of violence toward animals or humans.
Urge your Massachusetts lawmakers to support S.1206/H.1817!
