Luke Michaels

As Digital Media Specialist, Luke Michaels builds and maintains the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s websites and digital tools. Their work helps supporters find information and take action with ease.

Luke brings more than 20 years of frontend engineering and UX design experience. Most recently, they spent over 8 years as Senior Web Developer and UX Designer at Mercy For Animals. Earlier in their career, they worked with organizations and brands including Bob’s Red Mill, International Council for Animal Welfare, Compassion in World Farming, and Voters For Animal Rights. They joined the Animal Legal Defense Fund to put their skills behind the fight to protect animals through the legal system.

Off the clock, Luke is an artist. They hand-draw and screenprint animal rights-themed stickers and build interactive illuminated art pieces for festivals. They also enjoy collecting physical media and Tamagotchi. Luke lives in Longview, Washington with two rescues: Juno the dog and Gork the cat.
