Lauren Frey

As a litigation fellow at ALDF, Lauren works to advance the rights and improve the lives of all animals. She is particularly interested in using environmental law to promote the welfare of farmed animals. Lauren has had a lifelong passion for animal justice, becoming a vegetarian at age four before later transitioning to veganism.

Lauren earned her Juris Doctorate at UCLA School of Law, where she earned specializations in environmental law and criminal law. At UCLA Law, Lauren was a Managing Editor for the UCLA Journal of Environmental Law and Policy, and was a board member of her school’s Animal Law Society chapter. She graduated from UCLA Law with pro bono distinction, which she earned in part through volunteering with UCLA’s Animal Rights Pro Bono Project. During her law school summers, she clerked at Animal Outlook and at ALDF in its litigation program. Prior to law school, Lauren graduated cum laude from Rice University, where she majored in Linguistics and Psychology, and minored in Anthropology.

Lauren lives in the Seattle area with her fiancé and her two cats, Arya and Charlie. Outside of work, Lauren enjoys reading, singing, learning languages, and visiting farm sanctuaries.
