Charlie Mills

Charlie Mills is the Head of Philanthropy at the Animal Legal Defense Fund, where they build meaningful partnerships with the supporters whose generosity makes the organization’s groundbreaking legal work possible. Working closely with donors, Charlie helps connect their values and philanthropic goals with opportunities to create lasting protections for animals through litigation and legislative advocacy. Charlie believes the best philanthropy begins with listening and enjoys helping supporters make gifts that reflect both their values and the impact they hope to have on the world.

Charlie brings more than a decade of nonprofit fundraising experience to their role. As Associate Vice President of Donor Relations at The Humane League, Charlie directed strategy and performance across principal, major, mid-level, and planned giving. They built the organization’s major gifts program from the ground up and developed the infrastructure needed to sustain rapid growth. Charlie also managed a portfolio of major and principal donors, securing six- and seven-figure gifts through thoughtful, long-term partnerships. During Charlie’s tenure, philanthropy played a central role in helping The Humane League triple its operating budget, dramatically expanding the organization’s impact for animals.

Charlie holds a bachelor’s degree in Law & Politics from Oberlin College and is honored to combine a longstanding interest in the law with a career dedicated to advancing animal protection. They live in Philadelphia with their partner and two rescue dogs, Beau and Buttercup. A devoted music fan who plays baritone ukulele with more enthusiasm than skill, Charlie can often be found at live shows or hiking through national parks despite maintaining a healthy respect for steep drop-offs.
