Call for Papers to Animal Law Review
Animal Law Review (ALR), founded in 1994, is the nation’s oldest law journal devoted entirely to legal issues related to animals. The journal has featured writing by prominent voices in the field, including Dr. Jane Goodall, former U.S. Senator Mark O. Hatfield, Laurence H. Tribe, and Cass R. Sunstein. We are proud to publish papers by academics, animal law professionals, students, and others whose work relates to animal law.
More information on the journal can be found at its website.
ALR is currently seeking submissions on all topics related to the law and animals, including (but not limited to):
-
Animals used in entertainment and research
-
Aquatic animals
-
Companion animals
-
Endangered species protection
-
Industrial animal agriculture
-
Insects
-
Legal personhood for animals
The journal is particularly interested in considering papers that explore the intersections between animal law and other issues, including tribal law, consumer law, and worker’s rights. We are also especially interested in articles that focus on cellular agriculture and biogas.
Eligibility requirements:
To be eligible for publication in ALR, papers must be written in law review style and must conform to legal citation standards as per the Bluebook. Papers must be written in English. At this time, ALR is only accepting unpublished papers. Please review our full publishing guidelines here. To get a sense of the material we publish, please explore our previous issues.
How to submit:
Please send papers to se-animallaw@lclark.edu by Sunday, June 2nd. Please include a cover sheet that includes the following information: name, article title, address, phone number(s), e-mail address, affiliation, and biographical information.
Papers that are not selected for publication in the fall 2024 issue may be considered for the spring 2025 issue. If you decide to submit a paper to us for consideration, kindly let us know if it is subsequently accepted elsewhere.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
Sincerely,
