SAN FRANCISCO — The Animal Legal Defense Fund, the preeminent legal advocacy organization for animals, has once again been recognized with Guidestar’s Platinum Seal of Transparency.
There are more than 1.5 million nonprofit organizations in the U.S., but fewer than 12,000 of them — less than one percent — have received the Platinum Seal of Transparency. Of those, less than one in 10 is focused on the issue of animal protection.
“As the nation’s leading legal advocacy organization for animals, we have always been unique,” says Animal Legal Defense Fund Executive Director Stephen Wells. “Being a part of this special group reflects our dedication to transparency and showing our supporters exactly what we are doing to further the interests of animals through the legal system.”
The Platinum rating is the highest available from Guidestar — one of the nation’s largest platforms dedicated to evaluating nonprofits and providing insights to help donors find effective, transparent charities aligned with their philanthropic goals. The Platinum designation was created in 2016 to give nonprofits the ability to augment existing financial metrics with additional results-based insights, offering a deeper and more enlightening look at their work.
By voluntarily sharing more information and programmatic results than other nonprofits, Platinum-ranked organizations go beyond the simplistic financial metrics of the past to give their supporters more meaningful, sophisticated measures of success and social change.
The Animal Legal Defense Fund is deeply committed to transparency with its members, supporters, and the broader public. In addition to being Platinum-rated by Guidestar, the organization is also a Charity Navigator four-star nonprofit, a Better Business Bureau accredited charity, and a recipient of the America’s Best Charities Seal of Excellence.
The Animal Legal Defense Fund is a pioneering nonprofit that for more than 40 years has been dedicated to protecting the lives and advancing the interests of animals through the legal system. It employs multiple complementary strategies to advance the cause of animal protection, from filing high-impact lawsuits to advocating for animal-friendly legislation to assisting local jurisdictions in handling cruelty cases to expanding access to animal law education.
