Animal Legal Defense Fund’s Values Statement

Justice: We are committed to doing what is just, right, and fair for animals, each other, and multispecies communities. Embodying this value requires that we navigate our work with an eye toward the intersectional impact of our work and its interconnectedness with other social justice movements.

Compassion: We lead with intentional awareness of our work with all individuals – both human and nonhuman – and both within the organization and outside it. We practice empathy to ensure team members and all others are treated compassionately by one another, the organization as a whole, and external partners and stakeholders.

Commitment: Both organizationally and individually, we persevere in our mission of advancing the interests of animals. ALDF is committed to fostering an organizational culture grounded in openness and transparency in which all team members are valued, recognized, empowered, and supported. ALDF team members are individually committed to supporting one another and working effectively on behalf of animals.

Integrity: We are honest, accountable, and credible. We prioritize what is right and fair over what is expedient, and we represent this through our internal and external policies, practices, and messaging.

Innovation: We are willing to take responsible risks and implement creative strategies to advance the interests of animals. We achieve this goal by always striving to implement policies and practices to support and foster opportunities for our team members. We create space for innovation and encourage constant learning.

Balance: We strive to create space for balance, joy, and flexibility, embracing our whole selves in our work. We value and support our team members’ health, well-being, diversity, and individual contributions to our work. Balance in ourselves and our approach leads to better work and collaboration, furthering our mission as a united organization.
