The Animal Legal Defense Fund (“ALDF,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) values your privacy. We collect information when you register to become a member. We also collect information if you contact us through our Websites.

We collect information about users over time when you use our Websites. This includes usage and browser information. We may have third parties collect personal information this way on our behalf.

You can control if we share information with third parties for their marketing purposes. California Civil Code Section § 1798.83 provides California residents a right to request certain information regarding our disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. If you are a California resident, you may opt out of having us share your information with third parties for their marketing purposes. Donors

We collect information needed to process donations from our donors such as name, address, phone number, email address, and credit card and billing information. Additionally, we may provide some donor names, email addresses and other contact information, details about your interaction with us and donation data to certain cooperative databases and other nonprofit organizations to facilitate our fundraising activities. If you do not wish to have your personal information shared with a cooperative database or other nonprofit organization, please contact us at membership@aldf.org

Text Messages

Certain ALDF services utilize short code programs (SMS or MMS text messaging). For example, we may use text messaging for general service notifications, fundraising or marketing. Before we initiate sending any text messages to you, you will be notified about our use of text messaging and asked for your consent. You can opt out of text messages, including fundraising/marketing-related texts by replying STOP from the mobile device that received the message or as otherwise provided in the message. We do not share mobile numbers, text message content, or text message opt-in status information with third parties for marketing or promotional purposes except with third parties who perform services on our behalf.

General Audience Websites

Our Websites are meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information of users under 18 years of age.

We take steps to protect the security of your information.

We take the security of your personal information very seriously. We use a variety of generally accepted, industry-standard security systems, software, firewalls, and encryption technologies – such as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), designed to protect against the unauthorized access of servers, equipment and other components of our databases and online presence, as well as to enable secure transfer of personal and financial information during transactions and secure storage of personal information within these systems. These systems are only accessed by authorized ALDF personnel, and the personnel of the third-party service providers who store or transmit ALDF data.

However, the internet is not 100% secure and we cannot guarantee that use of our Websites will be completely safe and that your personal information will never be accessed, used, or disclosed in a manner that is inconsistent with this Privacy Policy. We encourage you to use caution when providing information over the internet. This includes not sharing your passwords.

Retention

We keep personal information as long as it is necessary or relevant for the practices described in this Privacy Policy and to the extent necessary to manage our relationships with you, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.

We store information both in and outside of the United States.
