Mary Schaefer

As Senior Accountant, Mary Schaefer supports the Animal Legal Defense Fund by managing Accounts Payable and Payroll processing. Mary also helps with the month-end close by entering journal entries related to bill payments, payroll, and credit card donations and reconciling some of the organization’s asset and liability accounts.

Mary completed accounting classes at Cal State Los Angeles and then expanded her knowledge through “real-world” accounting. She has worked for small and medium-sized companies including non-profits for the past 40 plus years in roles ranging from bookkeeper to a Finance Director. Mary has been recognized for helping move a few companies forward by updating devices and implementing new software.

Born and raised in Santa Rosa, CA, Mary shares a home with her sister. She previously lived in Los Angeles for 20 years before moving back to Santa Rosa in 1998.
