John Seber
General Counsel
As General Counsel, John Seber supports the Animal Legal Defense Fund to ensure that the organization can carry out their mission to protect the lives and advance the interests of animals through the legal system. John directs the internal legal affairs of the organization, advises staff on all legal matters related to the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s operations, and serves as a member of the senior executive team.
John graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School and magna cum laude from Georgetown University.
Before joining the Animal Legal Defense Fund, John was the senior vice president of advocacy at Mercy For Animals. In that role, he supervised the global advocacy program and directed undercover investigations, public policy, and the Transfarmation program, which partners with farmers to help them grow crops instead of raising animals for food. John also managed litigation at the PETA Foundation. There, he supervised federal and state litigation throughout the country, as well as internal and outside counsel. Prior to joining the animal protection movement, he was an associate at the law firm of Eimer Stahl LLP in Chicago, Illinois.
John lives in Asheville, North Carolina with his wife and two dogs, Penelope and Oliver.
