Staff Writer and Editor
Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine
The Physicians Committee is a nonprofit organization working toward compassionate and effective medical practice, research, and health promotion. For the last 28 years, PCRM has led the way for reforms of federal nutrition policies, and our clinical research programs are breaking new ground in diabetes, cancer, and other serious medical conditions. We have fought for an emphasis on prevention, higher ethical standards in research, and scientific advances in basic research and effective drug development. Over the years, we have taken on battles to end ethically questionable experiments involving children and inhumane animal experiments and have worked to improve science education. We have worked with physicians, federal regulators, politicians, researchers, educators, students, and concerned citizens. And we have so much more work to do.
About this Career Opportunity
PCRM is looking for a highly skilled writer to join our team. If you are a wordsmith with experience in persuasive writing, like to think creatively and outside the box, can detect grammatical errors from a mile away, and want to promote plant-based diets and ethical research, we want to hear from you. The position involves editing and proofreading fact sheets, program materials, fliers, development letters, and other materials under time constraints; working closely with the media team to write newsworthy content; writing, researching, and pitching op-eds; and the ability to synthesize many different ideas into well thought-out reports, op-eds, and letters. This is a full-time position located at PCRM’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The communications department is fast paced, ambitious, and tenacious – we are looking for a team player who will tackle his or her work with a sense of urgency, persistence and vigor. If you share these qualities, are passionate about PCRM’s mission to advance the field of medicine, nutrition, and research, meticulously organized, an avid reader of the news, love writing and researching, able to handle competing priorities, and looking to make the world a better place, we’d like to hear from you. Experience with technical or medical writing is a plus.
How to Apply
In your cover letter, please tell us about the values we share, your accomplishments, your salary requirements, and about any experience you have with writing, plant-based nutrition, and/or advocacy. Send your cover letter, resume, and your best op-ed to careers at PCRM dot org and reference the position title in your subject line. We look forward to hearing from you!
