[Washington, D.C.] – Today, the national nonprofit, Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) filed a request with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for investigation of Orlando, Florida-based PM Productions Entertainment, Inc. and its owner, Robert Mullen for violations of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA). Last weekend, several national media outlets reported shocked visitors at the Missouri State Fair describing emaciated, lethargic tigers performing circus tricks during Mr. Mullen’s Amazing Rainforest Adventures exhibition.

In response to media questions about the daily food intake of his apex predators, Mullen acknowledged that they eat just 13-14 pounds of chicken daily as opposed to the additional bones, red meat and organs tigers should also receive to survive. Fair visitors reported visible spines and hip bones on the animals as well as sluggish big cats that appeared to have been drugged. Representatives from several reputable sanctuaries speculate that the tigers were intentionally underfed, so that they would be motivated to perform tricks for food morsels. If these allegations are correct, food deprivation is a serious violation of the AWA.

Mullen also received negative media attention in 2013, when the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) released a video featuring Mullen forcing emaciated big cats to perform at a state fair. In one part of the video, a cougar is being dragged by his collar. Trainers can also be viewed holding whips to intimidate the animals.
The recent media outcry about the big cats at the Missouri State Fair led a former Mullen employee to step forward and report seeing a tiger being transported from Orlando, Florida to Cape Cod, Massachusetts in a pickup truck—a serious violation of animal transport laws. The cat was made to remain in a crate for the more than 24 hour drive with no opportunity for exercise.
“ALDF has asked the USDA to consider suspending or revoking Mr. Mullen’s license, so that no additional animals can suffer in his care” said Stephen Wells, executive director of the Animal Legal Defense Fund.

ALDF’s letter is available by request. ALDF was founded in 1979 with the unique mission of protecting the lives and advancing the interests of animals through the legal system. For more information, please visit

  3. Deborah Stephens says:

No animals should be subjected to this- it is animal cruelty and abuse. These animals have been entrusted to us to protect -not use and abuse! They deserve to be in the wild, not ripped apart from their families and forced to do tricks to satisfy our fleeting whims! Release them to a sanctuary where they will be respected and receive the treatment they should have!

  4. Amy V. Miller says:

    1. Teresa Pitre says:

Circus mistreat animals they are cruel

  22. Valerie says:

As a species we have not evolved all that much. We are the most cruel, self absorbed species on this planet. Human beings have the mentality that we own and can do whatever we want to whomever. Since the days of the Roman Coliseum, we have been imprisoning our own species as well as many others and forced them to fight to the death. Human vs human, human vs animal, animal vs animal. The spectators were just as blood thirsty as they would excite to the point of orgies in the stands. Look how people behaved at hangings and be-headings.people today dance and party in the streets, loot, when someone is executed. This does not say very much for us. We shame the word humanity. We are no better than another…we are just different.

Poor babies! This man should be locked up. These animals are so under weight and he is mean to them, too. I wish I could hug them and let them know that it’s going to be okay soon and they are loved and will be put in a sanctuary that will look after them properly for the rest of their lives and let them be with their own. xoxoxoxooxo <3

Animals should not be used as a way of earning an income. Putting an Animal behind bars like a criminal is just crazy! Abusing them, starving them, neglecting them is just inhumane! Leave these precious creatures alone! Stop the show!

  33. MammaMia says:

Excellent. Let us keep the pressure up to end this as soon as possible. I cannot understand how people can watch these beautiful animals and not feel stinging pain in their chests. Anyone can see these tigers are not in proper condition.

    1. Brenda says:

Stupid people only see what They want to see and a animal lover would not want to see that if your going to use animals for entertainment then take very good care of them they didn’t ask to be but on show

  34. Jennie Huebner says:

Stop the show. Feed these Animals properly. Animals do not belong behind bars like a criminal.

  35. Doris Malow says:

God created all animals for us to Love, Protect and respect their lives with compassion. No animals should suffer or be neglected. All animal cruelty at must be put to an END! The Torture inflicted upon these innocent animals is inhumane and unacceptable in a civilized world!!!

  36. Keisha Johnson says:

This is totally cruel…doing tricks all day, being forced to live in a small cage for life and being tortured….this is not a way of life…all these wild animals need to freed….or placed in a refugee where they can roam freely….I am so sick of these little circuses and also the big ones….do you wanna live in a cage and do tricks for life?

  37. avril says:

    sauvons les tigres

  38. Marianne Mc Donald says:

    Please stop this cruel abuse.

  39. freddie williams says:

No more animals in circuses. Remove them all to reputable sanctuaries NOW!

  40. I am the voice the voice less let’s put an American in a cage and ship it all over the world just like an animal is done and say hey this is an American animal it only has two legs and two arms , then let’s put every nationality separately in a cage and do the same thing , let’s take those human cells and ask them how they feel …
    just after four weeks …
now wouldn’t you have posttraumatic stress syndrome from that !!!!!!?
