SAN FRANCISCO — Despite the thousands of incidents of animal cruelty that make headlines each year, there is no national reporting system for the abuse of animals. Today, the national nonprofit Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) aims to change that by unveiling a new app designed to make it easier than ever to report the neglect, abuse, and cruelty to animals.

ALDF Crime Tips–now available for iPhone and Android–empowers its users with the tools necessary to safeguard the lives of animals at risk. Users are presented with an intuitive interface that allows them to submit audio, video, picture, and GPS information of any incident straight to the nearest law enforcement authorities. The first-of-its-kind animal abuse reporting app is being unveiled in conjunction with ALDF’s National Justice for Animals Week 2013, and will serve as an invaluable new way for animal advocates to take a stand against cruelty in their own communities.

ALDF worked closely with LiveSafe, a Washington D.C. based mobile safety and incident reporting firm, to unveil this unique service to its membership base of over 100,000, as well as the general public. The goal is to bring greater ease, transparency, and accountability to an often neglected area of law enforcement.

"ALDF Crime Tips takes the guesswork out of reporting abuse like dog fighting, neglect, and other forms of animal cruelty," says ALDF Executive Director Stephen Wells. "This discreet, effective way to help animals lets concerned citizens take action on the spot, with the confidence that their tips will get to authorities who can help animals and put abusers behind bars."

The LiveSafe team is proud to contribute to this important initiative, and is committed to the mission to help bring an end the abuse of animals.

ALDF’s Animal Abuse Reporting App can be downloaded for free from the iTunes App and Google Play stores. ALDF was founded in 1979 with the unique mission of protecting the lives and advancing interests of animals through the legal system.
