pazzo-240pxST. LOUIS — The national nonprofit Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator(s) who abused a five-year-old border collie mix named Pazzo. The dog was found with a knotted rope around his waist and genitals, severing his genitals in half. The crime occurred in North St. Louis, in the Baden neighborhood near Christian Avenue, on or before March 27.

When staff at Stray Rescue of St. Louis discovered Pazzo—after being alerted about another dog by U.S. Marshals—the rope was embedded deeply in his waist, causing him excruciating pain and infection, which would have led to a slow, torturous death. Once back at Stray Rescue’s Vet and Trauma Center, Pazzo went into surgery to have his waistline sutured. He has also undergone the first of several reconstructive surgeries, and will need heartworm treatment to battle that life-threatening illness.

Under Missouri’s anti-cruelty code, MO. Stat. § 578.012, a person who purposely or intentionally causes injury or suffering to an animal, or who knowingly fails to provide adequate care to an animal in that person’s custody, which results in substantial harm to that animal, is guilty of a class A misdemeanor (for first-time offenders—imprisonment up to one year and/or a fine up to $1,000) or a class D felony (for repeat offenders or those who inflict torture or mutilation on a conscious animal—up to four years imprisonment and/or a fine up to $5,000).
Pazzo’s plight has struck a nerve in the community and the response has been immediate. Individuals and organizations including the Animal Legal Defense Fund are donating toward the reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. ALDF’s contribution is $3,000, bringing the total reward to more than $7,430.

“Pazzo has suffered agonizing pain from this sadistic act,” said Stephen Wells, executive director of the Animal Legal Defense Fund. “The abuser responsible for this cruelty poses a grave threat to the community: people and animals alike.”

Stray Rescue Founder Randy Grim is grateful for the community’s response.” People are sickened by the abuse these poor souls are forced to endure, and the community wants justice. I’m grateful for the love and compassion that Pazzo is receiving, and we’re doing everything we can to help him heal mentally and physically at Stray Rescue.” Read Pazzo’s full story by visiting

    Karma will get you buddy!

  2. Glenda Gill says:

Pazzo is lucky to be alive. The people who did this to him are cruel and sadistic, and need to be punished to the nth degree. I don’t understand this mentality of someone who would intentionally harm and abuse a helpless animal! It is evil, and I hope the punishers are found, before they harm another animal.

  3. Billy angus says:

    Animal abuse has no place
    anywhere on this planet.

  4. Julie goff says:

Make sure he gets good home

  5. Julie Kiran says:

If you have men who will exclude any of God’s creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men.

  6. Debra Mucci says:

Animal abuse must stop and those that cause animal abuse must paid for their crimes!!!! Felonies for all animal abusers!

    1. Kenlyn M says:

I agree with you. These people are NOT sick, they know what they are doing. We all must find a way for cruelty and abuse to stop.

  7. S power says:

Idiots they should suffer the same fate!

  8. Sophie says:

It is documented fact that people who abuse animals may have been abused as children (not making an excuse.) The person(s) who abused Pazzo must be found as they are a danger to other animals as well as humans.

  9. some humans don’t deserve to be alive, they are monsters…

  10. Brenda Jackson says:

ok this is one sick bastard mutilation of the genitals is really half a step away from do all kinds of horrible things to a human…Serial rapist or worse KILLER

  11. Janie Bennett says:

This sickens me…just the thought of this poor baby being alone and in all the pain caused by a sick “human”. Someone who would do this to a helpless animal would do the same to a child. I think there should be felony charges for this kind of abuse to an animal.

  12. Rene Anthony Garcia says:

i can only hope that there is a special place in hell for monsters who are cruel to animals as well.

  13. Cindi K says:

  15. Larry Cable says:

I can only hope that the person responsible for this is brought to justice.

Anyone capable of inflicting such pointless cruelty and torture to an innocent animal like this deserves nothing better than the treatment they met out to Pazzo.

I hope Pazzo fully recovers and finds a forever home that will treat him with the love and care he deserves.

  16. Laurie Powell says:

It would be helpful if society viewed ALL fellow animals as persons with interests: the right to not suffer, or to be used as human resources. The best way to help children learn this value is to teach them that ALL animals matter. It is confusing to children that dogs and cats are friends while pigs, cows and chickens (who are equally intelligent, emotional, social and unique individuals) are food. Please go vegan to respect all life. There is no need for us to harm ANY animal and this attitude will help children learn to respect and care about all life.

  17. Carolyn Bartz says:

Makes me ashamed to be human. For all the horrific torture of all animals on this earth, there aren’t enough bullets………. Sweet innocent animals like little Pazzo deserve a home with love. That’s all they want. Then a deceitful human of betrayal turns their life upside down. It’s a wonder they trust anymore.

  18. Helena Frangogiannis says:

Let’s ope that whoever did this gets several 4 year sentences and several time the 5000 dollar fine…..Actually he/ she/ they should rot in prison. This is the act of a real sadist dangerous to all forms of life.

  19. Carolyn Chamberland says:

Love to do the same to the disgusting so called human being responsible! Hope it rots in hell!

  20. C. Morgan McNeil says:

Though animal abuse cannot be tolerated under any circumstance,as with child abuse, the offender, man woman or child has been, was abused. Dynamics in family define potential personality. More over eating animals enures
a society to violence. There is also evidence that chemicals in meat result in violent mood swings. Just as there are more homicides in countries that impose the death sentence so a greater number of abusive interactions result where physical punishment is deemed an acceptable means of altering or treating so called bad behaviour. There is real meaning
in the term ‘acting out’. Whosoever abuses an animal has been abused. On a systemic level, eating meat requires participation in slaughter. Enured as we are of violence what have we to expect? Animal abuse is both more of the same and on a deep level, protest. We must develop means to treat systemic causes,
    personal and societal.

  21. Renee Trapp says:

This is absolutely horrific! Whoever abused this poor, innocent dog should be prosecuted to the extend and beyond of the law. Someone should do the the same to this person so they can endure what this sweet creature has. It just breaks my heart to think what suffering he’s been through. Please keep us informed as to how he’s doing.

  22. Stacey reutt says:

It breaks my heart that animals don’t get the same justice as people… These crimes are horrific…these crimes should be treated as felonies they are totalally premeditated…. Please , please wake up… Animals look to us for help they cannot talk.. They love unconditionally…. Let’s show them not all humans are evil!!!!

  23. Maureen McGill says:

This is the work of a dangerous psychopath, he/she will strike again.

  24. Theresa A Ponger says:

Soooooo very sad!!!! Hope THEY get caught!#

  25. Maria E. Gardner says:

Truly sad how some people can be so evil – poor doggie praying for some recovery and the hanging of this piece of scum!

  26. Jean Mohr says:

This is a felony as any abuse should be against an animal. This poor dog needs justice of equal measure not some slap on the wrist. Get the laws changed to felony for such horrific cruelty.
Let’s work to find this bastard/s and punish him/her/them the same way. That would be some justice for Pazzo.

  27. Richard Ordonez says:

The degenerate/s who did this to Pazzo are most deserving of the same treatment. They are in need of a serious beat-down and I
would be more than happy to administer
such justice. Please lock me in a room
with this scum and I will personally
show them what pain is all about!
