Animals’ Legal Status: Current Issues & Future Directions
Animal Legal Defense Fund’s Animal Law Academy is pleased to announce the webinar “Animals’ Legal Status: Current Issues & Future Directions,” with Lora Dunn and Matthew Liebman.
Lora Dunn, Criminal Justice Program Director for the Animal Legal Defense Fund, will discuss animals’ current legal status as property and how this status can hinder animal protection, along with highlighting creative legal arguments that use this status for the animals’ benefit. Lora will also discuss recent victories in advancing animals as victims, such as the Oregon Supreme Court case State v. Nix.
Matthew Liebman, Litigation Program Director for the Animal Legal Defense Fund, will discuss different theories of animals’ legal statuses, such as heightened property status and personhood, and how these changes might affect and shape animal protection in the legal system.
This webinar is free and open to everyone. There will be a limited number of spots available.
