The Animal Law Program works to advance the emerging field of animal law by facilitating the development of animal law courses, supporting the growth of Student Animal Legal Defense Fund (SALDF) chapters, and increasing volunteer and educational opportunities for legal professionals.
Our Criminal Justice Program provides free legal assistance to prosecutors and law enforcement agencies to ensure criminal anti-cruelty laws are enforced; the program also maintains a national database of animal cruelty cases and animal protection laws.
The Development Team directs marketing and fundraising drives, and works with major donors who support ALDF’s cases and campaigns.

Our litigation program files civil actions on behalf of animals, often include filing amicus curiae briefs arguing the case for recognition of the bonds between humans and nonhuman animals, and formal complaints against government agencies charged with enforcing laws meant to protect animals.

Membership and Operations works to ensure that all of ALDF's infrastructure runs smoothly. From membership databases to IT solutions, the department covers all systems that enable ALDF to continue the day-to-day legal operations of animal protection.
