Emily Stewart

Litigation Fellow

As a Litigation Fellow, Emily Stewart works with the Litigation Program attorneys to advance the interests of animals using creative legal strategies. Drawing on her background in environmental law and wildlife conservation, she tackles the intersections between animal rights, sustainability, and climate justice.

Emily received her B.A. in Environmental Studies and Government and Legal Studies from Bowdoin College. She earned her J.D. from New York University School of Law, where she was a Root-Tilden-Kern Public Interest Scholar and served as an Executive Editor of the Environmental Law Journal. During law school, she worked on a wide array of environmental issues with the Natural Resources Defense Council, the California Office of the Attorney General, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

A native New Yorker, Emily lives in New York City with her rescued tuxedo cat Claude. She enjoys travelling, cooking with local produce, and getting outdoors.
