Florida: Ask Your Legislators to Protect Animal Cruelty Victims!
THIS ACTION IS CLOSED.
UPDATE: The 2020 Florida legislative session has ended, and SB 1048 did not pass. Please check back to see how we’ll continue to fight for Courtroom Animal Advocate Program legislation in Florida next year.
S.B. 1048, introduced by Senator Jason Pizzo, would allow volunteer attorneys to advocate for animal victims in cruelty cases. Considering the relative complexity of animal crime cases — involving victims who are unable to speak for themselves and who are considered living “evidence” who need food, water, socialization, and veterinary care — the needs of the animal victim may not always be considered. SB 1048 would change that by providing animal victims with an advocate whose duty is to represent the animal’s interests.
Your state senators need to hear from you today — please email your state senator and urge them to support SB 1048, which will create a courtroom animal advocate program in Florida and protect victims of animal cruelty.
