Lawyers who wish to help address the plight of wild animals kept captive in unhealthy conditions have a number of legal tools available – but they also face numerous obstacles. In this class, attorneys from the Animal Legal Defense Fund will discuss the laws that protect captive wildlife, and the best litigation strategies for enforcing these protections.
- Legal protections for captive wildlife, including the Endangered Species Act (ESA)
- Who may bring suit to protect captive wildlife
- How to establish standing in federal suits under the ESA
- What litigation can accomplish in the fight to protect captive wildlife
