Les Porter – Fire Captain
Captain Les Porter has been fighting fires and rescuing animals for 25 years. He heads up a brave team at the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District in central California, where he is also a member of the Swift Water Rescue team, Rescue Boat Operator. Recently, he completed a state-certified training course in Large Animal Rescue with John and Deb Fox.
Over the past two decades, Captain Porter has rescued many different types of animals. In the fall of 2012, he made the headlines when he dove into flames to rescue a pit bull named “Moe,” who was trapped inside a burning barn. Without hesitation, Les barreled through the flames to free Moe, who was hiding under a boat in the barn. Thanks to the courage shown by Les and his team, Moe escaped with very little harm. With similar gusto, Les and his team also recently helped rescue a horse stuck in an irrigation canal in Riverbank, California.
An animal lover at heart, Les lives on a ranch where he cares for four horses, three dogs, two cats, and eight chickens.
