Preserve Protections for Arizona’s Animals
The following action is for Arizona residents.
Some Arizona legislators just revived the terrible anti-farmed animal bill you helped us defeat last session. The factory farm forces are moving fast, so we must do everything we can to stop this harmful and regressive legislation in the Senate.
HB 2150 would remove livestock and poultry from the protections of the existing animal cruelty code and instead place all farmed animal cruelty enforcement into a “separate but unequal” section of the agricultural code—adding broad exemptions. HB 2150 also would require the Arizona Department of Agriculture to be notified of any investigation of farmed animal cruelty, and make it harder to charge cruelty to livestock as a felony.
A resounding 87% of Arizona voters recently surveyed said they oppose this attempt to put farmed animals into a new, weaker anti-cruelty code.
Please make a brief, polite phone call to your state senator today and tell them you strongly oppose HB 2150. You can say, “I am a constituent. I care about farmed animal welfare and I would like you to oppose HB 2150.”
After you call, email a follow-up message.
Please help us oppose this blatant attempt by the agricultural industry to eliminate the few protections that remain for Arizona’s cows, pigs, and chickens.
