New Video: Gracie’s First Steps

Posted by April Nockleby, ALDF's Online Content Manager on July 7, 2009

At 9 p.m. on May 21st, Lacy, the pregnant mare who was close to death when she was rescued from a North Carolina field, gave birth to a healthy, beautiful baby girl. Both mother and daughter are doing great!

Watch a video of the new foal, who was named "Gracie" by ALDF supporters, take her first steps. (Video courtesy of the United States Equine Rescue League.)

Last December, Lacy, an Arabian mare, was close to death from colic and the burden of carrying a foal with no food or nutritional support. Her hipbones, backbone, and ribs were all protruding from her skin, indicating an advanced state of malnutrition and starvation. She was rushed to the North Carolina State College School of Veterinary Medicine for critical care.

  1. What a joy to watch mom and daughter together. Thank you so much for doing the work that you do by making sure people who neglect animals pay for what they do.
I help the animals by donating money to different animal welfare organizations. Please keep me posted on the good stories.
Again, thank you so much for all the hard work that you do and let me know if there is a way that I can help actively in this noble cause.

OMG!! I nearly “burst” with joy and gratitude at the sight of mother and baby. Were it not for ALDF this beautiful mother and baby would be dead. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and soul for all you do fighting for the animals. I send what-ever I can when-ever I can.
    GOD BLESS YOU

I thank God for people like you – loving, compassionate people who treasure all life. If it wasn’t for you, little Gracie wouldn’t have been in this world at all, and most likely her dam would have died. We all have to stop animal cruelty whenever or whereever we see it. It is truly a monsterous crime and no animal deserves treatment like that. God Bless and Thank You!!
