Funniest, Cutest, Sweetest

It’s a tradition at the beginning of a new year to make lists. Some lists are important and significant, like our new year’s resolutions or the most momentous world events of the past year. Others, well, not so much. So, in keeping with tradition, I hereby offer a couple of lists in each of those categories.

First, in the important category, I present ALDF’s fourth annual State Animal Protection Laws Rankings™ which we released last month. ALDF offers this study, along with our annual compendium of state animal protection laws, free of charge to help local activists, Humane Societies, and state legislators identify and correct laws that fail to adequately protect animals. We also offer a host of model laws that states can introduce to correct those flaws and will review legislation on request free of charge. Media coverage of the rankings helps states build support for positive change in low-ranking states like Idaho, and to recognize the work of lawmakers in top-ranked states like Illinois.

Now, just for fun, here is a list of my favorite web videos involving animals from the past year. Since there are a LOT to choose from, I decided to add categories.

Funniest:

I couldn’t decide between these two, so I’m including them both:

Combine U.S. Geological Survey footage of a bear scratching her back against a tree with Kool and the Gang and you get: Genius.

Closer to home, combine two curious cats and a treadmill and you get: Hilarity.

Cutest:

A ridiculously cute video of a rescued calf and his new ball.

Sweetest:

A boy and his dog.

Happy New Year everyone!
