Bites with Kristin Bauer: Animals in Entertainment

Posted by Lisa Franzetta, ALDF's Director of Communications on June 9, 2011

The countdown has begun for True Blood fans who are eagerly awaiting the return to Bon Temps this summer! Season 4 of HBO‘s hit series, where vampires lurk among the living in a fictional Louisiana town, returns to small screens from coast-to-coast on June 26. To help tide over hungry fans eager to bite into this season’s action, ALDF will be running a series of exclusive one-on-one interviews with actress and animal advocate Kristin Bauer, who plays the show’s lovely–but lethal–Vampire Pam.

Today, get Kristin’s take on the use–and abuse–of animals in entertainment. “Animals should get to live the life that nature intended,” she explains. “It’s incredibly selfish to imagine that another being has to live a life he wouldn’t choose just to entertain me.”

Recently, Kristin teamed with ALDF to support our lawsuit and campaign to free Tony, a tiger kept as a roadside attraction in Grosse Tete, Louisiana. In a wonderful victory, the court ruled last month that the permit allowing Tony to be kept at the Tiger Truck Stop could not be renewed when it expires in December. Meanwhile, on June 14, ALDF attorneys are heading back to court to argue for Tony’s immediate release from his life of suffering in his concrete cage by the side of the highway. Stay tuned at www.aldf.org/tony for the latest updates on Tony.

And stay tuned for more of ALDF’s “bites with Kristin” over the next two weeks, while you’re counting down to Season 4!

I love Kristen Bauer and True Blood, and stand by animal rights. But I am wondering about the real wolves used on the show?

It looks like Tony the Tiger’s future is looking brighter, thanks to organizations and outspoken stars like you.
