We are proud to announce the winner of the 2012 Rescue Tails Photo Contest. Over eight thousand votes were cast, and the winner is Mr. Darcy! Congratulations! You will be featured on the ALDF holiday card.

The Winner is…Mr. Darcy!

Mr. Darcy

Thanks to everyone who submitted photos and voted!

The contest has produced some amazing results. Staff blogged about ALDF’s own Rescue Tails. Chronicles of an obsession with cat photography, what happens when the law saves the life of a rabbit, and the phenomenon of black cats being harder to get adopted at shelters–along with a stunning photo gallery of Rescue Tails on Pinterest.

Bailey Baroo, Gem, and Taylor are runners up!

Thanks for voting, submitting photos, and sharing your stories!

  1. Leslie Newton says:

How could you not vote for Gem? All decked out for Halloween.

  2. Martha says:

why not do a montage of them all? they are all winners!

  3. leslie hauschildt says:

I like the comment about a montage! Or (altho I know this probably raises the cost) making the card package a mix where you end up with three or four of each. I voted – I but I love them all!

  4. michele says:

Can’t agree more why not do them all!

  5. Ms Cherry Marrone says:

They are all so cute…how do you pick just one?!

  6. Scott says:

Mr. Darcy is so cute and has a great story!!

  7. Riyeko Lordaeron says:

How could you not vote for Gem!? She is all decked out for Halloween, and who doesn’t like a cat with attitude!

  8. Dana says:

Wake Forest loves their SALDF mascot Darcy! But love the collage idea too…. all great animals with great stories!

  9. b says:

Why can some people vote multiple times on one computer but others cannot?

  10. Lisa Mezakowski says:

The stories of Lennox, Leilani and Dhalia are not only inspiring but a warning to all: Multigenerational dog breeding can lead to very serious, disabling and sometimes fatal consequences! Tails such as these further drive home the meaning of “DON’T SHOP – ADOPT! “

  11. Cat Lover says:

Taylor is beautiful and by far the best example of quality artistic photography. Detail and color are exquisite. Taylor could be a feline model and she/he’s cute as well.

  12. bev leifer says:

@Cat Lover – thank you! your comments about my photography means a lot to me. i’m not a professional but i pride myself on my photos. if you could just see Taylor in real life you’d see how gorgeous his blue/violet eyes are! The neighbor who originally was taking care of him while he was living on the street named him Elizabeth after Elizabeth Taylor because of his eyes, but then the vet told her he was a “he” and he became Taylor! The night i was notified by ALDF that Taylor was a finalist, he was hit by a car. His front right leg was broken, but he’s healing quickly! THanks again for your wonderful comments!

  13. Timmy G says:

    I love Bailey Baroo!!!!

  14. The grieving family of Bailey Baroo says:

Thank you to everyone who has voted for Bailey Baroo. He passed away at 3:32p ET today and is at peace.

  15. Linze Edwards says:

Mr. Darcy looks like my pup…adorable!

  16. Ian says:

We are so sorry to hear about Bailey Baroo. Everyone here at ALDF knows how hard it can be to lose a close friend. Our thoughts go to you and your family in this time of grief.

  17. b l says:

So sorry to hear about Bailey Baroo.

  18. Carmen Terceiro says:

Being an Australian, I had to vote for Lennox, Leillani and Dhalia (two of whom are Australian Shepherds). The woman who took all three into her home has a huge heart.

But why choose just ONE image for your festive cards? Why not embrace diversity in its many wondrous forms

All power to you, ALDF. I wish we had an organisation as big and organised as you in Australia. We’re getting there slowly, but we ARE making small wins for animal rights and animal welfare.

  19. b l says:

    Congrats to Mr. Darcy!

Do you happen to know how many total votes there were?

Again, thank you to ALDF for the wonderful work they do!
