Jail Time for Dog Abuser, Send Thanks to Prosecutor

ISSUE:
(Washington County, OR)  A neighbor complaint led to the discovery of a beaten dog and an AK-47 rifle at Brandon Matthew Nagy’s house in March 2008. Nagy had visible blood on his hands and shoes and investigators believed that the dog was kicked by Nagy and thrown into a wall. Nagy was arrested for animal cruelty, and due to his previous felony conviction on drug charges, the rifle possession was an additional charge.

Nagy pleaded guilty in September 2008 and was sentenced to 12 months in jail, 5 years probation, anger management counseling, and over $4,000 in restitution for the dog’s medical bills. Additionally, Judge Steven L. Price wisely ordered that Nagy have “no pets” for 15 years. The dog, Kahlua, is now recovering and will soon be placed in a new loving home.

Please send letters to assistant prosecutor Mark Richman thanking him for recognizing the seriousness of animal abuse crimes and for the earnest and vigorous prosecution of the Nagy case.
