Puppy Dies While Boarding - No Charges

Posted on March 13, 2008

ISSUE:
(Putnam County, IL)  A healthy seven-month-old Yorkshire terrier died while being boarded at a kennel in May 2007. Although a necropsy report states that the dog died of massive internal injuries with no evidence of attack by another animal or any post-mortem trauma, the kennel owner’s position is that the dog died of a heart attack.  The kennel owner told investigating authorities that she had been working alone at the kennel on the day of the incident.  ALDF has reviewed the investigation materials from this case and believes there is sufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges against the kennel owner.

ACTION:
Please send polite letters to Mr. Rafferty, urging that he review all the facts of this case and reconsider his decision not to prosecute.  Please refer to case PCSD#PC07-2331.
