Animal Cruelty Lawsuit Settled, Joint Statement of Parties

June 12th, 2012

Compassion Over Killing (COK), Cal-Cruz Hatcheries, Inc., and its president, Brian Collins, have entered into a settlement to resolve all claims relating to an unfair business practices lawsuit based on alleged animal cruelty at the hatchery. This lawsuit stemmed from COK’s undercover investigation inside Cal-Cruz Hatcheries, which showed routine practices that include alleged mistreatment of newly-hatched chicks.

Cal-Cruz Hatcheries is no longer in operation, closed a few months ago, and has therefore agreed to no longer own, keep, possess, or have custody of any animal.

Additionally, Brian Collins has agreed that he will not be in any way legally responsible for the welfare of animals in a commercial setting for five years.

In order to ensure compliance with this settlement agreement, Brian Collins will continue to keep Compassion Over Killing updated with his current address and employment information for five years.

Notwithstanding and as a term of the settlement, Cal-Cruz and Brian Collins expressly deny any liability or responsibility in the matter.
