ALDF's 2012 Advancement of Animal Law Scholarships Announced

The Animal Legal Defense Fund’s (ALDF) Advancement of Animal Law Scholarships are awarded to second- and third-year law student members of Student Animal Legal Defense Fund (SALDF) chapters based upon demonstrated commitment to ALDF’s mission – to protect the lives and advance the interests of animals through the legal system. Scholarship recipients also act as mentors for their chapters after graduation.

Five students received the international scholarship this year for their outstanding work in the growing field of animal law: Misty Christo, Josmanny Horta, Danielle Duffield, Kevin Schneider, and Elizabeth Hallinan.

Misty Christo Misty Christo is entering her third year at the University of Nebraska College of Law. Misty is interested in using her law degree to help animals as well as to protect the people who help animals. Read more.
Josmanny Horta Josmanny Horta is entering his third year at Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts. Josmanny lobbied in support of a pending bill that would ban veal and gestation crates in Massachusetts. Read more.
Danielle Duffield Danielle Duffield is in her final year of law school at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. Danielle organized New Zealand's first-ever Animal Law Week in 2010. Read more.
Kevin Schneider Kevin Schneider is entering his third year at Florida State University College of Law. Kevin coordinated a pro bono program, giving law students the opportunity to prepare bill analyses for proposed animal-related legislation. Read more.
Elizabeth Hallinan Elizabeth Hallinan is entering her third year at New York University's School of Law. During her law career, Liz has focused on the intersection of animal law and environmental law. Read more.
