Victory for Tony!
Posted by Lisa Franzetta, ALDF's Director of Communications on May 6th, 2011This morning, a judge in East Baton Rouge District Court granted the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s request for a permanent injunction against the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, preventing the Department from renewing the annual permit that allows Michael Sandlin, owner of Grosse Tete’s Tiger Truck Stop, to display Tony, a ten-year-old Siberian-Bengal tiger. When the current permit expires in December 2011, Sandlin will no longer be able to keep Tony confined as a roadside exhibit at the truck stop where he has languished for over a decade. Read more....

This is FANTASTIC news!! Thanks to everyone for all their hard work for Tony! And for all who spoke out against his egregious conditions!
I am so pleased that this poor, beautiful animal will be released from his small cage and, hopefully, enjoy much greater freedom and care elsewhere. If only he might not be caged at all! I do have some fear that the present owners may harm or kill Tony before he is taken. And may I please be wrong about that! I signed petition after petition on Care2.com about Tony and other animals, and it is so gratifying to see the results a success finally. I believe the petitions help show support, but I am forever grateful to the ALDF for making it happen. Thank you for not giving up. Today I became a member and have made a donation because I so want to see more successes like this one occur. THANK YOU ALDF!
Thank you TONS to the Animal Legal Defense Fund for making this happen!! I donated to your organization for the fantastic work you did on Tony's behalf!!!
Thank you, ALDF, for all your work for Tony! What are the next steps? Does the owner have the opportunity to appeal the judge's ruling?
Sorry, but I am confused. I am SO HAPPY that Tony will be released but when? Is he still stuck in that cage at the Truck Stop? If so, can the ALDF hire security guards to be there 24/7 so people cannot tease him and throw things at him? I am still distressed over this.
Thanks to the great work of the Animal Legal Defense Fund!
Which Sanctuary will he be residing at?
