Grant Aids Deschutes Sheriff's Animal Rescue
BEND, Ore. -- The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a $3,900 grant from the Animal Legal Defense Fund. The agency says the money will be used to care for neglected, abused and abandoned livestock that are seized during investigation.
"It is unprecedented for a county sheriff to operate an animal rescue and manage the care of animals seized in criminal cruelty cases," Scott Heiser, director of ALDF's Criminal Justice Program said. Oregon recently ranked among the top states for its animal protection laws in ALDF's 2010 State Animal Protection Laws Rankings report. Congratulations, Oregon, for being a leader in animal protection!

So nice to read something good. Every bit helps. Alone we cannot do much but when everyone pitches in it truly makes a difference. It is my hope that people will realize the horrific conditions some animals are subjected to their entire life. I try everyday to raise awareness. That is the very least I can do. I donate money when I can. Most people just don't want to hear about abuse. Who does? MOST of us would be ridiculously happy to live in a world without abuse!!! Unfortunately, that will never be the case. I feel that we each have a moral responsibility to do what we can to make our world a better place by speaking up & out for those who can't, helping others whenever possible and being kind to all creatures.
I think it shows the compassion the sheriff has for his fellow earth dwellars. Thank God for the Sheriff and thank God for the ALDF. The animals in Oregon have the best kind of friend and benefactor in Sheriff Blanton.
