The Animal Legal Defense Fund released its fifth annual State Animal Protection Laws report today, ranking all fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories for the general comprehensiveness and relative strength of their respective animal protection laws.
For the third consecutive year, Illinois held the top spot alone in the rankings due to its wide array of animal protection laws and Kentucky, once again, had the infamous distinction of having the weakest laws in the nation—a position it has held since 2007.
