Defendants Plead Guilty to Burning Dog Alive
Posted by Scott Heiser, Director of ALDF's Criminal Justice Program on December 1st, 2010Kristian Dennard Jackson & Decarlos Lashawn Young pled guilty today to animal killing/torturing and arson of real property. In August 2010, they set a young dog on fire after a failed attempt at hanging her to death. A bystander was reportedly able to videotape this terrible incident with a cell phone camera. Investigators were unable to recover the dog’s body, it is believed that her remains were discarded in the trash and hauled away.
Both defendants
were habitual 3rd offenders and they pled to that as well. Young is to
serve 17 months to 8 years, and Jackson is to serve 13 months to 8 years
in the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Thank you to everyone who wrote letters, made phone calls and attended the court proceedings! Attorneys
in the case noted the large amount of mail, email and phone calls
received from supporters around the world, and the ALDF supporters who
attended court proceedings.
Please send letters thanking Judge Cynthia Gray Hathaway for doing an
excellent job in evaluating the past histories of both defendants.
